The students learn a second language while they are learning content. The goal of this program is to promote high levels of bilingualism/biliteracy in two languages. CABE 2017 offers visits to three high quality dual languages programs in diverse languages: (Please select a program to visit - e.g. #1a) a. Spanish and English b. Middle School Programs
Two-Way Bilingual/Dual Immersion
This secondary/middle school program is for both English Learners (Spanish) and English Only students at the middle school level. Students interact as language models for each other in different content areas. The goal for all students is that they learn English and meet grade-appropriate academic achievement standards for grade promotion and graduation; and become biliterate and multicultural scholars. This visit provides examples and models of how to grow a dual language program to the secondary level.
(This program includes a site visit to the high school dual immersion.)
High School Programs
a. English Language Development (ELD) and Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE )
This program will model how students at the secondary level continue to learn more difficult listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English through English Language Arts and English Language Development (ELD) instruction. At the high school level students receive instruction and primary language support, if reasonably possible and as needed, in key content areas such as math, science, and history/social science from specially trained teachers using SDAIE strategies and integrated ELD.

The goal for all students is that they learn English as well as the partner language and meet grade-appropriate academic achievement standards for graduation in order to become biliterate and multicultural scholars and earn the Seal of Biliteracy.
